Kar Dalan [Kâr Dé-lan] or “Greatest Gold Flower” was born with the name U-Ban [Ü Ban] or “Roaring Child” in Manataj, one of the three principal cities of Manator, an isolated nation that never adopted firearms or fliers. Bred to be a sword fighter on the jetan fields (Barsoomian version of living chess), Kar Dalan’s life completely changed once the other nations of Barsoom learned of Manator’s existence and the jetan matches were suspended. Without a profession, U-Ban became a bodyguard to Irek Rad, an unscrupulous arms merchant from Gathol. Irek Rad framed U-Ban for kidnapping the daughter of a local noble, which Irek Rad used to advance his social position when the princess was conveniently “rescued”. U-Ban fled Manataj, renaming himself Kar Dalan and became a mercenary [panthan] where he learned the essentials of shooting and flying. Recently, he has teamed up with Olera Gala, a strange being who claims to be from Thuria, the greater moon of Barsoom. Olera and Kar were present during the recent battle with Hin Abtol and his Panarian troops and thus was drafted into the Raxarian military. He continues to wear the metal of Raxar as he weighs his future.
